To gorgonzola or not to gorgonzola?
That is the question. For I have gorgonzola, but I have discovered that for the yumminess of walnut gorgonzola rav/tortellini, I would be better off cutting the gorgonzola with ricotta and mascarpone.

And before anyone asks, I don't have a recipe. I just have an assload of sweet potatos, a chunk of gorgonzola, and a pasta maker. And the faith that whatever comes out can't be disgusting given the starting point.

Seeing as how I have now made it twice and raved about it both times, I'm posting my Cookies & Cream ice cream "recipe". (Where by recipe, I mean "base I hijacked from a different ice cream recipe, then sliced, diced, and reassembled to suit my own nefarious purposes.")

Cookies & Cream Ice Cream

2c /584mL extra thick double cream
1c whole milk
3/4 c sugar*
1 tsp vanilla extract
1 tsp Bailey's
----------
8 Oreos, smashed
dash Bailey's
chocolate/mint chocolate shavings (optional)

In a large bowl, combine double cream, milk, vanilla, Bailey's. Whisk in the sugar, stir until it starts to dissolve. Pour mixture into ice cream maker. While cream mixture is churning, add 3/4 of the smashed Oreos and the dash of Bailey's. Allow ice cream maker to finish. Dust container with part of remaining smashed Oreos. Pour finished ice cream into container. Top with remaining smashed Oreos, chocolate shavings. Freeze and enjoy.

*I suspect 1/2c would actually do just as well, but forgot to try it this time. Will hopefully remember next time and report the results.

latest from the kitchen:
made banana bread. reduced the amount of sugar, substituted demerara sugar for refined sugar, sprinkled maple sugar on the top. YUM. (although the maple sugar is sticky after baking. which is obvious in retrospect, but didn't occur to me at the time.) going to make another batch tonight, but as muffins, because i have two more mushy bananas to get rid of before they get nasty. actually, three. hm. what can i do with that extra banana. maybe banana-coconut muffins?

the extra thick cream is so very worth the higher price. yum.

also, [livejournal.com profile] mrmonkeyman, no luck on the dry ice. liquid nitrogen, but i don't think the post office would be happy with me trying to ship that. (not to mention, i think it would make plastic containers way too brittle to survive the journey to wales...) let me know next time you're going to be in town and i'll do another batch.
