i win. managed to shove one suitcase inside the other without destroying either one or anything else in the flat. can now commence with the rest of packing. left the laundry too late, so in an attempt to make it all dry before i leave (at 5:35am) i cranked the fire up. it's now like a sauna only drier. thus nudity. (not complete. although if it gets much warmer, it might go that way.) am now thinking that after a spot of packing, there will be ice cream. and baileys.

yup. still not packed. have also not found nemo. but dammit, the other passengers are going to envy me tomorrow. i'm bringing my own dinner. mac&cheese. and i'm pretty sure that for once, i will not have trouble with baggage restrictions, as i've been weighing things i want to put into the suitcase and estimate i have about 70lbs TOTAL-which, given that i can have 70lbs per bag, means i'm doing fine. i just need to remember to distribute said weight evenly. also need to remember to download itunes BEFORE leaving, just in case i can't access the us version from london. (i am NOT paying 79p a song. i REFUSE.) hmm, and since i'm looking at it right now, also must remember to take my camera cable back with me!

i want to stay longer!
(disclaimer to the universe: i did NOT mean that in a "please throw more crappiness at me" light. if my exam tomorrow morning finds anything worrisome, or the car breaks down or some stupid thing like that, i am going to be pissed off. in a bigass texas kinda way.)

WHERE THE HELL IS NEMO??

found my sheet. found my winter clothes. found my bike lock keys-both of them. (dunno why i felt the need to bring both home.) found books i left last time. found everything except nemo, dammit!

wah!

i have too many books. and some of them will have to stay home.
i need to read 3 books tomorrow/tuesday before i leave so i don't feel as bad about leaving them. this decision is completely sensible, because i already have too many books in london, and they will all have to be shipped or carried back to this country at some point, but i hate not having my books where i can get at them if i should want them.

argh. i'm cleaning/mentally packing (estimating how much stuff needs to go into suitcases and what the best way is to put it in.) despite buying almost nothing this trip home (a few books, a couple of needful kitchen items, macaroni&cheese), i think i have far too many things to pack. i'd forgotten about the winter clothes and coat i left. damn.

last night was fun. hung out with brenna and jenn ([livejournal.com profile] aria13 and [livejournal.com profile] cheekybaby) at bahama breeze, where leigh works ([livejournal.com profile] lbwsampson.) we didn't leave until it was nearing midnight. we talked to laura and bethany ([livejournal.com profile] glamorousnj and [livejournal.com profile] greatguru) on jenn's phone. there was an argument with a certain silly scot who insists i have an english accent via brenna's phone. there were many moments of hilarity, and someone (brenna?) has a paper with quotage that will appear on lj at some point.

and now i need to get some food and then resume the cleaning/packing bit. i'm hopeful my room can look fit for human habitation AND i can be mostly packed by tonight. and then we'll see if anything on my grocery shopping list should actually be bought...i don't think there will be room.

but even so, i have actually SEEN leigh for the first time in, oh, a couple years or so? she and brenna and i hung out at the oar house for a bit. 'twas fun, and at some point in the evening, the title of this entry came up as an explanation for pretty much everything. (i think it was originally in connection with difficulty finding jobs, but i could be wrong.) oh, and i learned that the heart at the franklin institute is being remodelled. or renovated. or whatever you call an overhaul of a model of the human heart that's big enough to walk through. i need to go to the franklin institute, i don't think i've been there since i graduated high school.

and the more i think about it, the more attractive rewiring the light at the 55 off-ramp sounds.

i found a $10 bathing suit. (after a long detour to talk to brenna.) i think i will be out in the sun as much as possible from now until i leave.

and now if you'll pardon me, there is some corn on the cob and watermelon screaming my name.

brenna and i went to the beach today. we hadn't actually planned it, but that's what happened. since we had no plan, and thus no bathing suits or towels, we ended up buying cheap suits, towels, and sunblock on the boardwalk so we could swim and then lay around for a while. choice quotes:
"i have a bunch of jellyfish in my pants." (brenna)
"just sit down and don't move for the rest of your life!" (some very angry sounding mother to her offspring)
then we went to tory's and argued about greek mythology over dinner.

oh, bren-troy is playing at that movie theater behind sears, i checked.

yes, i know i wasn't very descriptive in yesterday's entry. but i was tired. i didn't sleep monday night. i got into a packing groove and have probably 75% of my stuff (all books and most kitchen things) packed. that leaves me only clothes, computer, and odds and ends to do when i get back. i packed my actual suitcases for this trip at 3:45am, but that was easy-threw all dirty laundry in one, some clean clothes i might need and some stuff i never wear and plan to leave here in the other. it's the lightest my suitcases have ever been-i was able to carry both of them down the tube station stairs at once.

the flight was looong and populated mainly by small children and high school kids. not very restful, but i was able to grab a couple hours' nap. the food wasn't too bad-ba have apparently made some menu changes, there was penne chicken and broccoli instead of chicken tikka, and the dessert was better too. but i could have done without the high school kids. they seemed to be on their way back from one of those multi-city canned tours. most of the girls were wearing football jerseys. (do they even know who baros and owen are?)

we took the long way home to find the new italian restaurant on route 40. it's run by the guy who used to be chef at winfield's. we ended up making dinner reservations. the food is GOOD.

when we got home, i opened the fridge to find a huge watermelon bearing a post-it that said "for lisa". my mommy loves me, she really does. and my house is completely overrun by orchids. not that i'm complaining.

and last night i got the best night's sleep i've had in ages.

woohoo!!!

the universe apparently felt i needed something shiny to distract me. so first [livejournal.com profile] alphakats sweetly listened to me vent for a bit and then (figuratively speaking) patted me on the head and told me it will be all right. then i find out that there is actually a title for the 6th harry potter book and you can find it on jk rowling's website. no word on when the book will actually be on sale, but today little things make me happy.

and exactly one week from now i will be getting on a plane. hm. maybe i should actually do that much delayed "what can i take home and leave home" sort i've been planning to do for ages. i'm now of two minds on the toys. on the one hand, it's likely i will end up in a small place and not have room for tons of stuff. on the other hand, the toys definitely add character. (we're talking my kinder egg toy collection, some playmobil stuff, and yellow submarine figures.) thoughts, anyone?
