I have come up with the complete manuals for plant/animal product entry into the US.
All on the APHIS web site.

Roma 4 - Sampdoria 0.
And like others in the section I was sitting in, I really thought up until the final whistle that it could yet be 5-0.
Awesome.
Awesome.
Awesome.

(Only exception to the awesome: the toilets, which are grotty beyond belief. Squat toilets, no tp, and a trough with faucets for washing your hands.)

Wierdness: You aren't allowed to take bottlecaps into the stadium. Plastic bottles are a-ok, as long as you throw the cap away at the entrance.

I'll probably write more about my day later, but I am going to take a shower now and assess the sunburn before I head off to dinner. (Got a hat, but no sunblock. My face feels ok, but my arms/chest above my tank top are definitely pink. Hopefully not bad enough to bother me tomorrow.)

Before anyone asks, yes I took pictures.

i stumbled across the roma pass by accident while trying to look up the cost of public transportation in rome. (that would be on the atac site, if anyone's interested.) i felt compelled to draw attention to this fine product, as it seems useful* for visitors to rome, but not easy to find info about in english.

(this would be why i am always trying to learn new languages. i hate not knowing what's going on.)

*it combines a 3 day travel pass with free admission to the first two museums/archaeological sites visited (and the list of participating attractions is pretty respectable), discounted admission to subsequent museums/sites. the roma pass is 20 euro, a 3 day travel pass alone is 11 euro. if you don't qualify for discounted admission to the museums/sites, it's a good deal, particularly if you're going to the colosseum.

back from scotland.

destroyed two knees climbing (down) ben nevis. actually, destroyed one knee on the 8 hour coach ride. that's actually the more seriously worrying one. got there, thought it was ok, stupid knee didn't so much as twinge all the way up. got to the top of the mountain and discovered i couldn't step down. this is a slight problem when you're on top of a mountain and need to walk down. i wrecked the other knee on the way down trying to baby the knee that wouldn't do down. i now walk like an old woman and can't do stairs.

have decided overnight coach to/from glasgow = never again. i will fly or take the train. i love both my knees and my personal space enough to pay extra for their sake.

many, many thanks to [livejournal.com profile] strategos for meeting us at buchanan st bus station and showing us the way to queen st. we probably would have found it on our own eventually, but given that we had 10 minutes to get from coach to train (don't ask...masami's theory is the coach driver was drowsy) having someone to tell us where to go was invaluable.

ok, food and nap now.

edit here there be photos.

first, the movie. good. funny. seemed to take itself less seriously than most austen adaptations. quite a bit of laughter. [livejournal.com profile] cheekybaby may smite me for this, but i liked this darcy better than colin firth.
*runs to a safe distance*

second, i have plane tickets for germany. ba. next week, thursday-monday morning. hopefully that gives me time to fit in everything and everyone. will hopefully get a phone number from liz sometime before then so i can tell her what time to meet me at the train station. have to call maija and jörg tomorrow. am v. excited about seeing them, as haven't seen maija since before xmas last year and jörg even longer than that. hope it will all work out!

buying the plane tickets was a mission. bloody visa (the credit card, not the thing that allows me to stay in the country.) ended up calling the us to talk to my bank or to visa 3 times, and still not being able to use the card i wanted to use. so tomorrow i have to take cash out using that card to put into my bank account here because i ended up using my debit card. technology is only useful when it works is all i want to say about it.

finally, summer seems to be over, and i heartily wish i had worn my fleece this morning, because i was bloody FREEZING most of the way home from the cinema. (despite multiple layers and cycling for all i was worth to warm myself up. the cycling theory didn't really kick in until about 3 blocks from home.) i need to hunt up where i hid all gazillion pairs of gloves at the end of the winter and put a pair in my bike bag.

orchids tomorrow morning. :)

i'm back, and i'm sitting in my flat naked because i yet again forgot the virtues of sunblock yesterday. consequently, my entire front (but only my front) is well done. three cheers for aloe vera. the nakedness is because the burn matches the swimsuit i was wearing, which unfortunately is not the same as my normal underwear (tops or bottoms.) this is one of the times i am very thankful that i now live alone.

croatia was awesome though. hopefully i will get to go again. with sunblock. (and this time manage to get tina to let me pay for a meal. honestly, the girl was better than my grandmother at feeding me but she wouldn't let me pay for anything. tina, if you're reading this, next time I am taking YOU out to dinner. ) pictures at some point soon, but probably not tonight. my camera battery needs to charge.

and alitalia is my new favorite airline. not only was the food better than any other airline i've flown lately, they gave us ice cream!

key situation sorted. meng jiy saves the day!
packed. in one carry-on size bag.
got tina's body shop request. they were on sale, too.
am now debating how much extra time to allow for getting the tube to heathrow.

ugh.
the flight was not happy. it was delayed for a start, and when we did finally board, the ground auxiliary power system was not working, so no a/c until the engines were running. we baked. i was sitting next to a large woman who overflowed her own seat and invaded part of mine. i hate such people. if you can't fit in one seat, than PAY FOR TWO. i paid for ME to sit in my seat, not someone else's flab. and she listened to bad music the whole time.

i took a cab from the airport. i didn't even attempt the tube. those bags were heavy. i bet anything natalie beats me home and bitches because i left them in the living room. (and will not have time to deal with them in any meaningful way until friday. when i go home tonight, i am SLEEPING. and tomorrow is a celebratory dinner for mark, who's been made a lecturer.)

i'm sitting in the office, feeling very tired and grumpy and slightly depressed, and thinking it was not the best idea in the world to leave myself two weeks to find a new place and move. i'm looking over ads in loot and such, but i think i'm far too fried to actually call any of them tonight.
