WHY is Caracciolo starting? The useless whining beanpole
*headdesk*
This does not fill me with confidence.

*sigh* While I like this midfield in theory, I'm already seeing the same problem-nobody wants to move forward. The backline just pass the ball amongst themselves.

And there we go with long balls again. *headdesk*

Conclusion: Palermo need new coach/training staff. Same old, same old isn't going to cut it. This is the same stuff we've seen the whole second half of the season and it hasn't worked yet.

WHY THE HECK WAS THAT SIENA GUY WIDE OPEN??

Bresciano, sweetie, we need you next week. Be careful, please!

I didn't see who got that shot off (announcer belatedly says Brienza?) but NICE! More of that please, guys!

And Cara had a shot after that too. Hm, a little more confidence from the boys in pink?

Could we pay more attention to Galloppa please? He keeps popping up completely undefended. We do that long enough and he'll burn us.

Uh-oh. Is this signs of petulance from Cara? *worries* Granted, he's a forward and forwards do muff challenges often enough...

No, Cara! You can't go down as soon you see the box! You have to make it one step more! And get up quicker! There is an art to winning free kicks, and you're too damn obvious about it!

Oh, pleasepleasepleaseplease...YES!!!!!!!!! GOAL!!!! CORINI!!!!

Ok, boys, now CONCENTRATE. Siena will be looking to come right back at us. Focus. The difference between champions and also-rans is all in the mind.

Another free kick? (Didn't see what it was all about, cause they were still showing replays of Corini's goal.)

OMG. Repeat, Capitano? Darnit, almost. (Grudging respect for the Siena keeper.)

Bresciano got a little too much and sent the ball well over the goal.
Settle, guys, settle. Focus.

Nice defending by Pisano. (I feel I don't give the backline enough love, just snipe at them when they screw up. So I'm trying.)

Can I just say that damn shadow down the right side is annoying as all snot? I can barely see what's going on when there's play going on in the shade.

Was there a Siena free kick? Whoever is deciding on when to do replays and show coaches' reactions is a crackhead.

Cara gets a corner, but I'm not best pleased. Where the hell is everyone who should be supporting him going forward? And this is not the first time.
Nothing comes of the corner, it's straight to the keeper.

Another corner. Please do good things. Corini takes it. Better delivery, but out it goes.
REALLY hate that stinking shadow

Nice kick from Corini, nice play from Bresciano. THIS IS THE WAY TO PLAY, GUYS. IN THEIR HALF.

Mr. Announcer Man, if you jinx my team I will have to hurt you.
Speaking of hurt, what happened to Cara?? (Replay has just answered that.) Thankfully, he's up. We're really running out of strikers, even though Cara's not my first choice I wouldn't want him injured.

OMG, WHY HAVE WE NOT BEEN PLAYING THIS NICELY ALL YEAR?
Good things happening in midfield.

Move forward, please, my pretties. It's very hard for them to score if the ball is in their half.

Siena substitution: Frick on for Locatelli.

Nice try, Cara, just a bit too much on the ball.

FORWARD, boys, not backward. Play keepaway all you want, just PLAY IT IN THEIR HALF.

Good work, defense.

One minute later, AGAIN with leaving a guy completely open! Communication, guys?

OH HOLY GOD, THAT WAS BEAUTIFUL CARACCIOLO!!!!

Ok, guys, don't let up now! You've got them down, KEEP KICKING.
Wow. Cara was *thisclose* to a second.

2-0 at halftime!!

Other halftime scores:
Fiorentina 1-0 against Messina , Empoli spanking Reggina 3-0. Atalanta are up 1-0 at halftime, but they're playing Inter, so I'm optimistic that scoreline will change by the end of the game.

Ok, guys. FOCUS. Heads in the game. You've got them down, don't let up.
Take the game to THEIR half.

That's the spirit, boys. Attack, attack, attack.

I REALLY hate that shadow and it's getting worse.

Uh-oh. What happened to Tedesco?? *is concerned, especially since he seems to be having trouble getting up*

CRAP. Siena kick.
But Siena try something strange that fails to work at all.

Guys, can we go play in their half again? It makes me far less nervous than playing in our own half. Play keepaway if you must, just play it farther upfield.

**Inter have just equalized.

Siena defender, what the FUCK are you doing to Bresciano??

This is good. Siena are getting desperate and petulant. I like. Although if Guana has been damaged, I will be less amused.

Looking good, guys.

Siena substitution: Alberto on for Codrea.

Nice shot, but I'm a bit concerned by Tedesco getting hit in the head AGAIN.

Ok, WTF, Siena? Would you STOP TRYING TO DAMAGE OUR GUYS?
Shit, Guana's out. Ciaramitaro's coming on.

Right, Rosaneri, remember, they are dirty bastards, but we have to stay focused and play the BALL, not the jackass near it.

Guys, take note: Siena are frustrated and losing focus. This makes it even more important for YOU to keep your heads in the game.

PLEASE PLEASE take the game to their half!

**Fiorentina 2-0. Empoli-Reggina is now 3-2.

SIENA DUDE, if you have hurt Zaccardo, I am coming down there to damage you.
But Palermo, this is good.
OMG, SEE? Almost a third!!
KEEP PLAYING IN SIENA'S HALF! Attack, attack, attack!
*loves that Cara and Corini seem to be having a "Who's gonna be Man of the Match" duel*

Palermo substitution: Capuano on for Bresciano.
This better not mean they're going to sit back and defend the rest of the game. Staying on the attack is the best defense.

Crap. Siena kick.
Fontana!

Come on, guys, pressure. Keep the pressure up! You let up and Siena get a chance to get their heads back in the game.

STOP IT WITH THE LONG BALLS! Yes, Zaccardo, I'm glaring at YOU.

Harsh hand ball called on Pisano.
Thankfully Gallappa wastes it, straight out.

Take the ball up to the other half, guys. PLEASE.
Thank you. Now, ATTACK.
No, not backwards! FORWARDS! *whimpers* It's a very basic concept. It's harder for Siena to score if the ball is living in their half. Take the game to them and KEEP IT THERE! Sitting back in your own half with 20 minutes to play just means that if a mistake happens, Siena are in a better position to capitalize on it!

*loves Corini*

Ok, that was just a completely intentional foul.
Corini takes, somehow Siena get a free kick.

Siena substitution: Eremenko on for Rinaudo.

I can't see a bloody thing in the shadow half.

More petulance from Siena. Keep pressuring them. A team that looks like that is not a team that's getting back in the game. *wicked grin*

Yellow card for Zacca. Whatever. I'm not bothered by it. Siena deserve to get back a little of what they've been dishing out, and Zacca's well able for it.

More sterling work from Fontana.

Could we take the ball upfield again please?

Zacca, WTF?

Boys, stop with the stupid fouls that give Siena a kick anywhere in our half.

Who's down...Cara? WHAT? HOW?

Siena have a decent shot. End-to-end, though as Palermo go straight back up the field. Fizzled, though.

Last 5 minutes of regulation time, but I make it at least 4 minutes stoppage time with all the injuries.

Speaking of which, Brienza has a cramp.
Palermo substitution: Giacomazzi on for Brienza, who looks gutted to be coming off. *hugs him*

Cara has another go. Doesn't happen. But I love him for trying.
Stay focused, guys. Keep the ball in their half as much as possible. Turn the pressure up. See if you can't make Siena commit stupid errors and give you another one.

**Holy crap, Messina and Reggina have both equalized! Empoli-Reggina 3-3, Messina-Fiorentina 2-2! Atalanta-Inter is still 1-1.

6 minutes of stoppage time. FOCUS, boys. You can DO this. Keep the pressure on to the very last second! Keep Siena off-balance and unsettled!

Ugh, looks like a couple more guys are having cramp issues. Suck it up guys, it's only a few more minutes. *pets them*
More good stuff from Fontana.

**Atalanta-Inter final 1-1

Free kick Siena. FUCK!

ATTACK, guys! PRESSURE! TAKE THE GAME TO SIENA!
KEEP POSSESSION!
**Empoli and Fiorentina are both tied at full time!!

WHISTLE! GRAZIE, RAGAZZI! A WIN!!

Final score: 2-1, Palermo!!
Other finals: Empoli-Reggina 3-3, Fiorentina-Messina 2-2, Atalanta-Inter 1-1!

Word. That goal was gorgeous.

and it was almost 3-0 before half time because of him too.

Damn. Pure luck, clearly, but lovely just the same. (:

I WAS WONDERING THE SAME DAMN THING! Really, this season needs to end and he just needs to clear out. Even when he's not diving or pouting or being generally useless, I can still hardly look at the man.

In good news, Guidolin decided to allow Corini on the pitch. Hurrah! That's something, right?

Verily, playing Corini is something. The man scored a lovely goal. :)

*Is not badmouthing Cara during the game, just in case* He has been winning free kicks if nothing else.

HOORAY!!!! Inside of the post, no less! That's my boy. (I just saw it -- I'm about 15 minutes behind, thanks to being out this AM, and am forcing myself to be patient and not fast-forward catch up.)

Corini is on fire today. Even wierder, so is Caracciolo...we might actually have a win on our hands if they keep this up.

LOL Yes, given who we're dealing with here that might be a good idea. You know, if you've got a moment.

Too late, play's started again. Maybe I should have, though. Siena's new strategy seems to be to take out as many Palermo players as possible.

Yeah, Guana definitely seems to have broken his collarbone. OUCH. Thank goodness it's the second-to-last game, because playing without him frightens me.

That collision was just ugly.

YAY! (Is it me, or did Palermo use, like, 14 subs?)

Date: 2007-05-20 03:20 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] jerseyfabulous.livejournal.com
Nah, it just seemed that way because they were dropping like flies in the second half. Only 3 subs, and only one of those was Guidolin's choice, the other two were for injury/cramp.

Let's hope and pray they show up in the same form next Sunday...Although I *think* we're now assured a UEFA Cup place. Fiorentina are on 55, we're on 55, Empoli are on 54, but Atalanta are only on 50.

StadioNews (http://www.stadionews.it/) seem to be thinking the same way I am, their main story is "Palermo in UEFA Cup".

From: [identity profile] bustedflush.livejournal.com
Yeah, from the little I can understand of the RAI post-game confab, the UEFA Cup spots are all set, and the Pinkies have one of them.

*collapses with relief*

Yes, I can stop worrying about Palermo now and worry about Napoli. Why do I always fall for teams that never make it easy on me?

Heh. As a long (long, long) suffering Newcastle fan, I can certainly sympathize with your pain.
