messina had an extra man on the field. he was wearing yellow.
i have been known to question the skill of the ref, but this time i outright question whether he hadn't already decided who was going to win this game. the decisions were just too one-sided and changed the entire tone of the game.
that said, if i were guidolin, the following changes would be made for the next game:
1. caracciolo would be playing bench for a while. he'd be the last ditch, every other stiker is injured sub. partly cause cara is a dumbass*, and partly cause he and di michele just don't play together very well. and partly because i'd like to see palermo use those new strikers they picked up in january. (actually, as long as i'm indulging in wishful thinking, i'd like amauri to be fit and ready to play before the season ends.)
2. rest simplicio for a game. i have no idea who to play in his place, but i'm going to be charitable and say he's looked tired for a while. the alternative is that he gives the ball away more than anyone else because he's just crap.
3. di michele needs some target practice. actually, a lot of target practice. to be taken under pressure. he missed an empty goal. that's just unacceptable. (i'm not trying to be harsh. i'm pretty sure di michele already knows this.)
4. start telling my players that the ONLY player who gets to approach the ref is the guy wearing the armband, and anyone who gets a card for dissent will be punished. i have no idea what the professional equivalent of the high school "you're gonna be running your ass off all week" is, but something like that.
*complaining about a decision virtually never changes it, and you're not allowed to touch the ref, no matter how much you think the fix is in.
