My dad and I were cutting back some branches from the cedar tree next to the driveway this afternoon. I was making sure the ladder was stable while he was sawing away. Cedar debris was falling everywhere. I looked over at my arm and saw this little oddity. It's a bug with feathers on its ass! Fortunately, I had my bike right there, so I whizzed back up to the house to get my camera and document this entomological phenomenon. (Well, whizzed as fast as one can whiz while carefully holding one's arm so as not to lose the strange critter crawling on it.) And yes, that's a far too close-up of my hand.
Will update if I find out what it is. (Of course, if you know, you could tell me and save me the trouble.)
After spending some quality time with Bug Guide, I think this is a nymph of the Acanalonia genus, which are plant hoppers. (This one is the closest match I found, but I'm not sure if it's the same species or not.)
