Yes, I'm going to hell. We all knew that already. But that was my first thought when I saw this headline about salmonella in peanut butter.

the beat goes on...
Apr. 6th, 2007 04:30 pmRome's police chief feels this video exonerates his force from charges of police brutality. I feel it demonstrates the utter stupidity of whoever runs stadium security in Rome. (When watching the video, the ManUtd section is on the left, in case you're unclear on who's where.)
Key points:
Yes, there were some ManUtd fans acting like jackasses and one that I saw who pushed a steward, and that shouldn't be tolerated. But the police response was a mess.
Key points:
- If it's that vital to keep the fans separated, why is there only a plexiglass barrier that doesn't look to be much taller than a tall man? If you want them seperated, there should be two taller barriers, with empty space and some security forces in between them.
- Why riot police for the away fans and stewards for the home fans? The riot police charged right down without waiting to see if ManUtd fans would respond to stewards. (If necessary, demand that the away team provide additional stewards to help keep order among their fans.)
- Did they train those riot police at all? Once the riot police swarm, the situation degenerates into chaos.
- Hitting people with the batons? Not helpful. If someone is being disruptive or belligerent, REMOVE them. Two cops to a trouble maker, and escort him to a holding area. Hitting is a waste of time and only escalates things.
