Another instance of the media trying to create the narrative

"Obama fatigue".

Ba-zuh? It's freaking August. He's not supposed to be at the peak of his campaign. People are going to be sick of elections/campaigning, because you media harpies have been gleefully dissecting it for a year now! It's the height of summer. People would rather be doing summer things, and the Olympics is starting. This is as good a time as any for a candidate to be low-key and take a bit of a breather. Barring major world events or major gaffes*, the candidates are not expected to dominate the headlines.

If the election is a horse race, it's not a short sprint. It's more like a cross-country eventing race. Obama's got all fall to get his groove back-if he's actually lost it, which I'm not convinced of. This may be just another "Hey! Look! Over there!" by the media to distract from the part where McCain is a mess, and not even a hot one.

*Obviously, major gaffes by candidates not named "McCain", as the media is determined to airbrush McCain's near daily mistakes out for him.

How long before the campaign gets it taken down?

Obama "_____ we can believe in" sign generator.

The Republicans had a bad time with the Bush/Cheney version of this last election. People are already having a field day with the Obama version. (Spotted on BoingBoing.)

Stay classy,Barack Obama

If you can't find it in yourself to call out crap like this at a campaign event, why should I have any confidence in your ability to make tough decisions as President? You can't even stand up to your friends.

That your campaign is apparently being run by amateurs is a secondary issue. Seriously, at an official campaign event, you should have KNOWN to vet anything a comedian was going to do in advance. Bernie Mac's spiel was either not vetted, or someone in your campaign thought that even though a lot of women in the Democratic party are still not happy with you, a joke implying that women are whores was ok. Either way, you have a problem.

Weekend politics

In the "why is this news" division, Obama tells former Clinton supporter that Clinton is still potential VP pick.

Does the media get how this works? It's not in Candidate Obama's interest to rule Hillary Clinton out as VP until he announces his VP at the convention. He needs the Clinton donors too badly to not tell them what they want to hear right now. (His pick will almost certainly not be Hillary Clinton.) Also, it is not in Hillary Clinton's interest to accept a VP nomination. She has way more leverage to accomplish her agenda, whatever it may be, as a US Senator than she would as VP. Assuming she will run again in 2012 or 2016 is not sound. The lady is 61 in October. Running a presidential campaign is a lot more grueling than running a re-election campaign for the Senate. It's doubtful she's going to want to take on a Presidential campaign at 64 or 68, or to think that she could realistically do so. She exhausted herself campaigning at 60. This year was her shot. She missed it. End of story.

In actual news, Obama's desire to use the Brandenburg Gate as a prop in his campaign has sparked a row in Germany. Despite generally falling into the red or green section of the German political spectrum, I actually agree with the CSU/CDU here, though it burns a little to say it. Candidate Obama using the Brandenburg Gate for electioneering purposes is inappropriate. It would be like a German politician coming to Washington and holding an election rally on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial. If President Obama wants to give a speech in front of the Brandenburg Gate, it's a different matter, and I suspect that no German politicians would raise a fuss. (Spiegel reports that the Obama campaign may have already requested a less fraught site, such as the Gendarmenmarkt.)

That ain't gonna save your bacon, Candidate Obama

Window dressing, anyone? Obama vetting FISA foe Dodd for VP.

Change my ass. This is the same old politics. Make it look good so the sheep keep moving along.
