the outraged mommy (2nd letter)
memo to the outraged mommy: i got told at 4 where babies come from and how they're made. my mom was pregnant at the time. and i was taught the correct words for my genitals fairly early. they're body parts. little kids ask what body parts are called. and guess what? there was no "loss of innocence", it was not explained "graphically" (do you really think parents show their toddlers or pre-schoolers porn?) and probably most importantly, when i hit my teenage years, my parents had no issues subtly working in "contraception" and "avoiding stds" without any big (mutually) embarassing Talk. i think we all emerged from the experience unscathed. and guess what? my parents have a sane, well-adjusted 25 year old. they also have a sane, well-adjusted 20 year old. and they aren't grandparents yet. amazing, isn't it?
